El estudio de los validos en la Edad Moderna resulta un tema atractivo y atrayente. Se han publicado en los siete pasados lustros muchos trabajos el respecto. El presente, coordinado por Christian Andres, y en el que participan, entre otros, el prestigioso hispanista galo B. Bennassar, se centra en algunos de estos validos. En el comentario que se lleva a cabo se compara y contrasta el presente libro con aquel otro que tuvo la desfachatez de dirigir J. Antonio Escudero y anunciarse en la portada como tal y en el interior del libro, y en el que aparecieron los espeluznantes y horripilantes plagios de Ignacio Ruiz R., copiando a Luis Antonio Ribot, sin citarlo en ni un solo momento, sin urbanidad universitaria. Ribot dio a conocer su trabajo en una obra colectiva singular, al alcance de cualquier cagatinta. Aquel plagio, del que Escudero es responsable en su casi totalidad, pues fue el organizador del Congresillo, el editor, el autor, el coordinador, el promotor y corrector del libro, fue algo completamente escandaloso, acompañado de inquietud, ruina intelectual y solo echamos en falta el ruido de sables. El plagio supuso una deshonra para el personaje despreciado, para el historiador plagiario, para el profesor plagiado y para Escudero, responsable y editor del libro. No fue flor de una tarde de primavera, pues los plagiones de la escuela de J. Antonio Escudero surgen por doquier como uvas en cesto, ad casum la gran plagiona gallega M. Emma Montanos, el plagista y plagiario Emilio Roque Lecuona Prats, en perjuicio de terceros, en un concurso a una plaza de profesor asociado a tiempo completo, enviando desde Santa Cruz de Tenerife un proyecto docente redactado por ajena persona para un concurso del más elevado nivel universitario. Este Lecuona Prats no hizo distingos y ni siquiera se entretuvo en pensar y en escribir, pues el proyecto lo toma de un diskette y lo manda como propio y de su cosecha y esfuerzo personal, para que substituya a otro que había presentado. El primero, el salido del bolígrafo Bic de Lecuona Prats, de 5 pp., una verdadera bazofia ni siquiera alcatifado de ciencia; el de ajena pluma de 143 pp. Semejante desfachatez, que no es de recibo, no evita que Emilio Lecuona Prats vaya sentado doctrina de honradez especulativa y de rigor, cuando ha llevado a cabo un plagio de campeonato, que deshonra la Universidad que le hospicia por tener entre los suyos a semejante enemigo de la propiedad intelectual, plagista, plagiario, copista y plagionario. Distinguen los autores del libro que recensionamos diversas especies de personajes, pues una cosa son los validos, otra los privados, no inferiores a los favoritos y, en cuarto lugar, los confesores del rey o de la reina. En este libro cobra singular relieve el corrupto Lerma sobre el que Escudero ha tenido la desfachatez de ir colocando el mismo trabajo con el mismo texto en tres sitios distintos. Los plagios del validaje son ya conocidos por parte de John H. Elliott, Stanley George Payne, Paloma Bravo-Blondeau, Geoffrey Parker y Hugh Thomas.
