Comment la population est-elle recensée dans les pays européens en 2010 ?
Un nombre croissant de pays se sont éloignés de la pratique classique du recensement au profit de formes alternatives reposant souvent sur l'utilisation de registres de population lorsqu'il en existe dans le pays. Sur 40 pays européens, 5 s'appuieront exclusivement sur leurs registres de population en 2010 (les pays scandinaves et l'Autriche), environ la moitié (21) continueront à utiliser un recensement classique (la Russie, presque tous les pays de l'Est et du Sud-Est de l'Europe, le Royaume-Uni, l'Irlande, la Grèce et le Portugal), et la plupart des autres pays (13) adopteront une technique mixte combinant les registres et d'autres sources, comme un dénombrement complet ou des enquêtes. La France a sa propre méthode depuis 2004 : le recensement tournant.
