Comparación de la actual deuda latinoamericana con las indemnizaciones alemanas después de la Primera Guerra Mundial
Los problemas de la deuda de Latinoamérica de la década de los años 80 son comparables en algunos aspectos con el problema de las demandas aliadas a Alemania por reparaciones, después de la Primera Guerra Mundial. Parecieran importantes cuatro dimensiones de comparación: las percepciones de legitimidad, el tamaño de las deudas, las alternativas de ajuste macroeconómico y la estructura de incentivos para acreedores y deudores en orden a cambiar sus posiciones. Aunque la deuda latinoamericana y las obligaciones de reparación alemana se originaron de modos diferentes e incitaron diferentes sentimientos políticos, los gobierno democráticos han tenido problemas similares con la oposición populista a sacrificarse por un aparente beneficio para los extranjeros.
