Comparison Analysis between Catenary Rotation Surfaces, Paraboloids and Surfaces Subjected to Compression Forces
Abstract. If the catenary is the plane curve with the lowest center of gravity, a singular minimal surface is the corresponding analogue in the two dimensional case. Singular minimal surfaces are models in architecture of perfect domes. In this paper we investigate if catenary rotation surfaces and paraboloids are far from the ideal model, and in consequence, if both surfaces are useful candidates as a design model for the construction of roofs and domes
