Competitiveness of Textile and Apparel Industry of Bangladesh with China in International Trade

This paper used the Balassa Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) Index and the Spearman’s Rank Correlation Coefficient (rs) to analyze the situation of competition and complementariness in the textile and apparel (T&A) industry between Bangladesh and China in international trade. Data of eleven key products of the industry in 2000-2009 were analyzed. The study explored that in six of those eleven products competition exists and in five remaining products complementariness exists between Bangladesh and China in the global market. Consequently, several solutions were proposed to help improve the competitiveness of the Bangladeshi T&A industry
