Connecting Globalised Agri-Food Production System and Its Impact on Global Environmental Governance

The modern Agri-Food production system is characterised as highly global in nature, however, supporters of globalisation and the neo-liberal state policies have always justified such action as increasing the investment into the sector, but it has met with scathing criticisms in the Global South and within the developing countries. The systemic breaking down of the state control over the sector, which was initially used to protect it, now has allowed foreign parties like Multinational Corporations to directly intervene in the production system. The first part of the paper focuses on the increasing globalisation has led to serious threats to the environment and to food security issues in the Global South. The second part of the paper looks at the increasingly globalised food connection system that the region(South Asia) is currently going through. The main goal on the paper here is to link the practice of sustainable agriculture in the practice of a globalised farming system. The third and the last portion of the paper focus on the Market-Based Initiatives to achieve the goal of sustainability and how the market can stir the south Asian agricultural commodity market towards a sustainable future which can also increase the farm income of the farmers in the region
