Contemporary Canadian Feminists
In spite of its relative disappearance from the political agenda since its strongest period in the early and mid-1980s, the feminist movement continues to play an important role in Canadian society. Feminists are engaged in the political and civic arenas in multiple ways, characterized by diverse groups such as Equal Voice, the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada, and the Native Women‘s Association, by the multiple service providers for whom feminism is the work involved in trying to improve women‘s daily lives and by the many activists for whom feminism is the identity that shapes their beliefs and behaviour. Despite its long history and the key role that the movement has played in Canadian politics, we know remarkably little about the individual women who identify as feminists
