Cooperative Governance in Co-Operative Banks

The purpose of the Companies is to create and sustain long-term shareholders value. Cooperative aim is to fulfill the needs of its members who are also the capital contributors. But both are produce rapid, reliable succinct, simple, usable financial information which in turn, should be focused on protecting, creating and sustaining value. Improved governance requires the right employees, the right culture and values, and the right systems, Information and decision making. Unfortunately, most organizations are attempting to steer their information age businesses using industrial age measurements. Any organization should collect broader array of information on activities and impacts both inside and outside and select a set of data to provide adequate disclosure to their various stakeholders. Co-operative bank needs to remain profitable with in co-operative framework. It has to carefully blend business expediency and cooperative values. Cooperative governance implies rules, tools and the concrete procedures through which cooperatives are managed. The governance must be consistent with the values, principles and the mission of credit co-operative, in order to allow for their correct implementation. Even though the objective of the corporate (profit maximization) and co-operative (not-for-profit) is differ, but accountability and disclosure combined with improved measures and new systems to drive the process through out the organization, creates greater value for stakeholders is an need of the hour, In brief, good disclosing performance measures allows all stakeholders to view the organization through the eyes of management.
