Copyright Protection of Satellite and Cable Broadcasts in Singapore
One of the current complex problems in copyright law relates to the manner and the extent to which the law should accommodate the new technologies of satellite and cable. A strong advocacy of copyright interests can impede the development of the new technologies, thereby depriving mankind of their social and economic benefits. On the other hand, an indulgent attitude towards the new technologies can erode the interests. The difficulty is to strike a satisfactory balance between the interests of society and the right of copyright owners to harvest the fruits of their creativity. At what point should strong advocacy yield to the public good?
