Corporate Governance Challenges in State Owned Enterprises in Zimbabwe

Governments in every country across the globe have been directly producing and distributing a variety of goods and services, which indicates that they are actively participating in a wide range of economic activities. The extent to which a country is involved in this process differs from nation to nation. This has led to the establishment of state-owned businesses, of which the government is, in the majority of cases, the single shareholder. The participation of the government is warranted for a number of reasons, the primary ones being to regulate the market when there is a failure in the market and to provide strategic services at prices that the average citizen can afford. As a direct consequence of this, the government regulates the prices that these businesses can charge, which causes a significant number of them to incur operational deficits. This write up intends to discuss the problems associated with corporate governance in State owned enterprises in Zimbabwe.
