Corporate Planning and Employee Compensation in Nigeria's Public Service Institutions : Remedies for High Productivity
Every public service desires growth for sustainability through a set of strategies that would enable efficiency and effectiveness of staff in the course of carrying out their official responsibility. Corporate planning and compensation are twin factors among the strategies by which the goals and objectives designed can be realised. The effectiveness of public service institutions determines the rate of contribution to Gross Domestic Product of a nation. This is usually accomplished through the commitment of the public servants to the vision, mission and core values under which the organisations are set up. The trajectory of corporate and compensation in the public service cuts across nations but differs in nature in terms of its effects on the development. The Public service in some developing economies is in a state of decadence due to improper strategic planning and excessive bureaucratic processes, absence of leadership skills, low capacity building, retrogressive governmental policies, mediocrity and unhealthy interruption from government, appointment based on ethnic affiliation, and avoidance of risk by public servants. The objective of this paper is to examine the challenges emanating from inadequate planning and compensation of staff in the public service and how this has affected its growth
