Correlation between Financial Restructuring & Poetry
Purpose – The present study is an earnest attempt to familiarize today's financial professionals and other corporate executives with the significance of poetry in Business considerations and to equip them with the tools and techniques of the same so that they are not only able to appreciate and absorb its inspirational value but can also explore the wide gamut of meanings and approaches beyond conventional lines of reasoning. The aim is to float and support the idea that Poetry should be integrated in Financial Systems and Business Houses in general. This paper is based on the first author's personal experience as Director-Finance with a private enterprise and the co-author's prolonged association with mathematics and poetry. The study and approach have been three-pronged:1) A specific area of finance namely financial restructuring has been chosen for an in-depth study besides a deep understanding of poetry to bring out a correlation between the two disciplines. 2) Engagement in dialogue with business executives followed by analysis and interpretation of the same by the authors. 3) Efforts with some success to introduce poetry-reading and listening within the premises of an enterprise or involving finance and business strategists in readings outside their work place besides encouraging them to write poetry.Poetry is a stabilizing force in any business setup besides being a thoughtful companion to corporate professionals. It adds a human face to the existing complex financial practices. Not everybody is initially receptive to the idea of engagement with this literary art form but many do realize that even an infrequent association with poetry helps in the release of emotions and makes the mind free from the saturation of fact absorption with the sole aim of profit-maximization. Inspirational poems in particular, provide for innovative thinking
