COVID-19 and its Effects on the Indian Stock Market : A Closer Look at the Pharmaceutical and Energy Sector

COVID-19’s effects on the Indian economy has been very disturbing with the economy facing major problems related to economic slowdowns, stagnancy of growth, liquidity crunch, reduced revenue gaps and restrictive market environment amongst many others. This had therefore also had a huge impact on the Indian stock indices Nifty and Sensex. The following paper will look at two case studies on the Indian pharmaceutical sector and Indian energy sector by monitoring the movement of the Nifty Pharmaceutical and Nifty Energy indices during COVID-19. The effects on the rise and fall of share prices will be analyzed in the paper with the help of data from the National Stock Exchange website while the news related to the market will act as a supporting element in the analysis of the data. The paper will finally compare the two indices as to how each indices has fared with the longevity of COVID-19 pandemic
