Credit Unions in Developing Economies : Membership Benefits

Over the past few decades the activities of credit unions in developing countries have gained considerable interest from development theorists and practitioners. The issue of whether members are benefiting from these credit unions has been a major concern for participants in the credit lending space. The study identifies the benefits members of the credit unions have received since they engaged the services of a credit union. The study involved all the twenty-eight active credits union areas that make up the Kuapa Kokoo Cooperative Credit Union. A simple random and purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample for the study. Among the major findings of the study was the fact that members of the credit union had access to loans for their education and other projects. The credit union has improved members' saving habit in all the areas the credit union operates
