The aim of the article is to introduce the methodology for cultural and historical development potential research. The methodology consists in definition of relevant elements of cultural and historical potential. Then each element gets the value according to its importance level. This variable was relativized to the area of the region, to number of its inhabitants and to number of parts of municipalities in the region for the purpose of comparability different regions. The article contains the application of this methodology in 3 model regions of different types which are located in peripheral regions of Czechia. We have found several results on the base of the research: i) there are differences among cultural and histrorical potential of model regions ? inland regions are in this sence quite similar, border region is different; ii) this differentiation was detected for every relativized variables of cultural and historial potential. The results of the research cannot be generalized because of the small number of the sample of model regions for now.
