Curbing Plastic Pollution in Oceans : Legal Challenges
Plastic pollution has now become the most urgent issue harming the marine environment, not only in developing countries where waste management infrastructure is insufficient, but also in the world’s oceans as a whole, because macro-plastic items degrade slowly and produce micro-plastic. The said article deals with the serious threat imposed by the plastic pollution to oceans and how one can take steps to curb the same. In addition, it highlights the need for an efficient international framework and discusses the same in consonance of 2016 Plastic Waste Management Rules. Furthermore, it emphasises on the issue of fixation of liability in case of Marine Pollution. Lastly, the authors have discussed the concept of Extended Producer Responsibility, which aims to ensure environment protection.
