O Deus-Sociedade Contra O Diabo-Mercado? Pesquisa Científica, Conhecimentos Tradicionais E Interesses Econômicos (The God-Society Versus the Devil-Market? Scientific Research, Traditional Knowledge, and Economic Interests)
Portuguese Abstract: O debate sobre a relação entre conhecimentos tradicionais, pesquisa científica e o uso comercial dos saberes de indígenas, agricultores e de outros cidadãos brasileiros tem sido impulsionada por diversos vetores, cada um deles representativo de um conjunto diferente de problemas. Estes vetores referem-se, basicamente, ao avanço das pesquisas em biotecnologia e à utilização de conhecimentos tradicionais para fins econômicos por empresas multinacionais (especialmente nos setores alimentício e farmacêutico). Esse fato gera demandas de parte da sociedade civil, tanto por repartição de benefícios entre empresas e comunidades como pela preservação das práticas dessas comunidades. Há diversas formas de pensar a articulação destas questões. Cada visão implica em determinada concepção da relação entre economia, sociedade e estado e corresponde a diferentes estratégias para lidar com os conflitos relacionados ao tema. O objetivo deste artigo é discutir pelo menos três dessas visões gerais e mostrar possíveis impactos delas sobre a escolha de modelos institucionais para regular a questão dos saberes tradicionais
