Development through Trade : Re-Examining India’s Act East Policy and the Northeastern Region
The present-day ‘northeastern region’ has been a meeting ground, atransit point and a southern trial of old trade routes. It has been themeeting ground of different people who migrated to the region fromSoutheast Asia and China at various points of history. As such the‘northeastern corner of India’ has become ‘a museum of nationalities’(Fuller 1909, xiii). The region had been known for her natural resourcesand maintained active trans-border trade with its neighbours during thepre-Independence period
