Die Stadtmaschine : zu einer Raumlast der organisierten Moderne

Die Krisenphänome der organisierten Moderne zeigen sich in Städten besonders ausgeprägt: die Auflösung klassischer Milieus, die Erodierung sinn- und ordnungsstiftender Institutionen, die soziale Segmentierung, Vereinzelung und Pluralisierung von Lebensformen. In neuen Ansätzen der Städteplanung wird daher als Gegenentwurf versucht, eine kompakte und verdichtete Bebauung zur Wiederbelebung des öffentlichen Raumes zu erreichen. Als strategischer Bezugspunkt für diese Wiederaneigung städtischer Quartiere dienen den Planern Grundrisse und Bebauungsordnungen der Stadt des 19. Jahrhunderts. Im Papier ist der Versuch angelegt, diese jüngsten Anleihen an die Vormoderne als Reaktionen auf die Krise der Moderne in einen historischen Kontext zu stellen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen Planungsarbeiten und Manifeste einer sich modern gebenden Architektur und Städteplanung, die in den 20er und 30er Jahren eine Antwort auf die damaligen Funktionsprobleme der Städte versuchten. Die Planungsarbeiten orientieren sich hier an der Maschine, die als Metapher für anti-historistisch orientiertes Denken eingesetzt ist. Die Interpretationsrichtung der Stadtmaschine, exemplarisch im Manifest der Charta von Athen dar-gestellt, funktionalistisch angelegt und oftmals formverliebt ausgeführt, hat den Städtebau in Ost und West gleichermaßen nachhaltig beeinflußt und vielfältige Aneignungen und Bedeutungszuschreibungen provoziert. Die Krisenphänome, die sich hieraus entwickelt haben, werden als Raumlast beschrieben und im Kontext urbaner und globaler Spannungsverhältnisse diskutiert.
