Differences of Citations in Funded and Unfunded Research : Empirical Research for General Properties of Scientific Development

The goal of this study is to analyze the relation between funded and unfunded papers, and citations in different scientific fields to explain causes of scientific development. Findings here reveal general properties of science dynamics and diffusion : a) Funded articles in journals receive higher citations than unfunded papers, b) Funded articles have a super-linear growth of citations higher than unfunded articles: a higher accumulation of citations and of diffusion of knowledge of funded articles in scientific communities. Results here can extend the knowledge to explain evolutionary dynamics of science and design effective research policies directed to support funding for the development of science and human society
