Divergent or Parallel Tracks : International and Domestic Codification of Commercial Law

The 1992 Uniform Commercial Code Annual Survey brings significant changes in the length and content of this annual review, the first major revamping since it was first published in The Business Lawyer in 1964. The increasing volume of litigation under the Code and the studies and drafting projects presently underway have resulted in rather significant growth in the Survey during the recent past. The 1992 Annual Survey, however, has been streamlined drastically. With the idea that a leaner Survey will be more accessible to more readers, and thus better fulfill its obligation to inform and educate its audience, the total number of pages allocated to the Annual Survey has been reduced by approximately 75%. To accommodate such a radical reduction of the Survey, and to permit all involved in its preparation to adapt to its new style, the contents of the 1992 Annual Survey are confined to this introduction, and to articles reviewing developments in sales, personal property leasing, commercial paper and payments, letters of credit, investment securities and secured transactions. Additional coverage of significant developments, such as articles dealing with the appropriate scope of the Code, uniformity, or the impacts of electronic commercial practices, or publication of the reports of study groups or task forces, will appear in future years.
