DLTs : Applications in the Financial Markets

Due to recent technological developments, the securities markets structure could be fully reshaped and rethought. One of the major innovation in field is so-called distributed ledger technology. In the current securities market securities trades between two parties require the involvement of several intermediaries, so ensuring the safety of the transaction. This paper illustrates about possible applications of DLTs within securities markets and how it could make securities trades safest and could make more efficient the current financial system. Examining different types of DLTs a special attention will be reserved at permissioned DLT with Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm. Demonstrating, so, the major suitability of it to application in the capital markets infrastructure. Moreover, thesis argues and analyses one of the most important implementations of DLTs, called smart contracts.This paper examines, keeping critical view, the first steps toward adoption of DLTs into financial markets and its possible evolutions within financial sector.
