Does Energy Security Promote Economic Growth? Empirical Evidence from a Global Sample

Energy security has increasingly become a significant concern of the international community and national security strategy. Based on the data from fifty-nine countries between 2000 and 2018, this paper quantitatively measures the impact of energy security on economic growth. The empirical results show that energy security has a significant positive effect on economic growth. Besides, the improvement of national political stability and the expansion of foreign trade is conducive to promoting energy security to economic growth. For energy-importing countries, energy security has a more significant impact on economic growth. These results expand the research field of energy security and provide implications for improving energy security
