The exploration of ‘wicked [social] problems’ (Rittel and Webber, 1973), I contend, are best handled from a variety of different epistemological viewpoints; and by a multifaceted data handling strategy. This is a re-visited review of two books. One, an edited collection of texts, offered the prospect of viewing the issues explored from multiple perspectives. The other text did not. How far has such thinking come in the 20 years since these books were published? Today, these works might be viewed as exemplars of what can happen to research scholarship, related practices and others involved when underlying assumptions are not re-examined. And when the voices of those whose lives are affected by practitioners’ work are unheard. As for what happens next. I leave you, the reader, to decide that for yourself
