Earning Gap : Measuring Three Decades of Market Favorability

The approach in this paper provides evidence about market favorability trends based on an individual’s marital status. The findings demonstrate that married women and unmarried men are the two groups that have experienced market favorability, while divorced men have experienced the largest decline. The wage decomposition method is adjusted to measure market favorability based on market valuation of employees across time intervals. These findings extend current earning gap literature and provide evidence using IMPUS-CPS data
