Eastern and central Europe: Opportunities and problems
West European managers are likely to find it hard going in Eastern Europe, despite the potentially great opportunities. For one thing, managers in the East are unaccustomed to dealing in market terms. For another, the restructuring of industry in the East will cause massive upheavals. As well as commenting on these matters, the authors of this article look at pricing decontrol, industrial infrastructure, the crisis in the business professions, new business legislation, banking and credit. The general message is -- approach cautiously and professionally.
