Effects of Implicit Socioeconomic Biases on Disparities in Wealth

Socioeconomics,an ever-changing and growing field of study is significantly shaping modern initiatives within the field while also displaying what the factors that affect the perception of this study are to the public. One of the largest topics that socioeconomics aims to address is the rapidly widening wealth gap in major cities around America over the past 20 years with resources like access to education, jobs, healthcare, etc. becoming less and less available to the general public. One tool used by socio-economists is The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), “is represented by the index of Economic, Social and Cultural Status, which is a composite score derived by principal components analysis” (Vinelli and Weller, 2021). The combined score given to an individual or family based on the index, taking into consideration parental education level, income, and resources available to their child, representing student backgrounds and demographics in addition to their likelihood of succeeding based on this information. Essentially, exposure or a lack of it to these necessities dictates the perception of why the field of socio economics needs to be studied to understand the progression society .Studying the demographics and backgrounds of people and its effects on their experiences, about important factors for every person like job security, education healthcare, food security, along with other resources, will provide an in-depth view into why social sciences are not taught in school especially in the US, which this study aims to focus on
