Effects of Teacher Pay on Student Achievement in Rural and Urban Areas of Burkina Faso
This research aims to identify and analyze the effects of teachers’ salaries on student achievement scores by using data from the school achievement survey in 2014 in Burkina Faso. The results show that teacher salaries, teachers’ gender, and private Muslim denominational schools negatively influence mean achievement scores in both rural and urban areas. In rural areas, the socio-economic index and the index of classroom materials have negative effects. The quality of primary education would involve teachers’ gender, Muslim public schools' pedagogical policy to match religion with learning, fight against socio-economic inequalities, and performance-based remuneration
