Im Rahmen der zur Promotion eingereichten Dissertation mit dem vorstehenden Titel soll festgestellt werden, wie und wo die deutsche Rechnungslegung nach HGB von der nach IAS/IFRS bzw. US-GAAP abweicht und welche Ausmaße diese Abweichungen annehmen. Kurz gesagt: Es wird die Frage beantwortet, welche Unterschiede es gibt und wie sie sich auswirken. Während sich die Literatur mit dem ersten Teil der Fragestellung sehr ausführlich auseinander gesetzt hat, finden sich zum zweiten Teil kaum Literaturbeiträge. Sollen die Unterschiede zwischen Rechnungslegungssystemen analysiert werden, genügt es jedoch nicht, sich auf die Unterschiede in den Vorschriften der verschiedenen Rechnungslegungssysteme zu beschränken. Um Aufschluss über das praktische Ausmaß der Unterschiedlichkeit zu erhalten, ist es nötig, die Berichtspraxis zu untersuchen. Folglich liegt der Schwerpunkt der Arbeit auf einem empirischen Teil; der theoretische Teil dient vorrangig der Herleitung der Hypothesen.Eine Untersuchung zum Ausmaß der Unterschiedlichkeit ist bislang in der durchgeführten Form kaum möglich gewesen, da die Unternehmen eines Landes die in diesem Land gültigen Rechnungslegungsregeln anwendeten. Diese Regeln unterliegen den kulturellen Einflüssen dieses Landes. Wenn Rechnungslegungssysteme vergleichen werden sollen, ist es deshalb naheliegend, länderübergreifend vorzugehen. Dabei werden häufig nicht nur spezifische Kriterien der Rechnungslegung untersucht, sondern ebenfalls kulturelle Umstände, die ungewollt in das Ergebnis einfließen und dieses verzerren. Diese Nachteile vermeidet eine Untersuchung durch den Comparability-Index, der von GRAY 1980 eingeführt wurde. Seitdem haben sich einige Autoren dieses Indexes bedient. Es werden hierbei Daten verwendet, bei denen ein Unternehmen zwei nach verschiedenen Rechnungslegungssystemen ermittelte Werte für das Eigenkapital und den Gewinn angibt. Die Auswirkungen der Unterschiede von Rechnungslegungssystemen können gemessen werden, indem diese Werte zu einander in Beziehung gesetzt werden, wobei im Ergebnis die Unterschiedlichkeit in Form eines prozentualen Unterschiedsbetrages angegeben wird. Um alle verfügbaren Daten aussagefähig verarbeiten zu können, erfolgt eine Variation dieses Indexes.Nach der Einleitung werden in einem zweiten Kapitel die Rechnungslegungssysteme nach HGB, IAS/IFRS und US-GAAP einander gegenübergestellt. Anschließend werden die Vorschriften zu einzelnen Sachverhalten mit ihren Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten auf Eigenkapital und Gewinn dargestellt und verglichen. Im dritten Kapitel erfolgt eine Einordnung der Untersuchungsmethode in den wissenschaftlichen Kontext. Das vierte Kapitel beginnt mit den Möglichkeiten der Implementierung von IAS/IFRS und US-GAAP in die deutsche Rechnungslegungspraxis. Anschließend werden aus den Erkenntnissen des zweiten Kapitels die Hypothesen hergeleitetDarauf aufbauend erfolgt die empirische Untersuchung börsennotierter, deutscher Unternehmen mit doppeltem Gewinn- und Eigenkapitalausweis. Es werden verschiedene Untersuchungssegmentierungen durchgeführt, wobei jeweils Teiluntersuchungen für Nicht-HGB-Regeln, IAS/IFRS und US-GAAP vorgenommen werden. Übergeordnet wird eine Betrachtung des gesamten Zeitraumes vorgenommen. Anschließend erfolgt eine Untersuchung der einzelnen Jahre, um Aussagen über die Entwicklung im Zeitablauf machen zu können. Weiterhin erfolgt eine Gegenüberstellung großer und kleiner Unternehmen, sowie eine Untersuchung einzelner unterschiedlicher Rechnungslegungs-sachverhalte. Diese Segmentierungen werden für das Eigenkapital und den Gewinn getrennt durchgeführt. Die Arbeit schließt mit einem fünften Kapitel, in dem die wichtigsten Erkenntnisse zusammengefasst werden.
