El alza del precio del petróleo y la mitigación de la pobreza: distribución del ingreso en Caracas, Venezuela, en 1966 y 1975
Este trabajo está basado en dos encuestas sobre gasto familiar realizado en Caracas. Sus resultados fueron usados para comparar distribuciones de ingreso tanto de las familias como individuales. Los ingresos reales de 1975 fueron calculados a partir de índices de precio de acuerdo al ingreso. Los niveles de pobreza y pobreza extrema fueron definidos a partir de los gastos mínimos en alimentación. El ingreso real promedio durante 1966 - 1975 aumentó en forma significativa, especialmente entre los ricos. La fracción de pobres disminuyó en forma marcada, pero el ingreso promedio no aumentó para los que permanecieron pobres. La participación de los pobres en el crecimiento del ingreso provino exclusivamente de la reducción en el número de pobres y excedió su participación en el ingreso de 1966. La brecha de pobreza se ensanchó con el crecimiento de la población, pero disminuyó en términos per cápita y también con respecto al ingreso total.
