The principal aim of this work is to provide empirical evidence about the existence of differences in the behaviour of the service sector companies. Futhermore, we try to identify those distinctive features of the enterprises of each service sector that allow us the design of a profile of the subsector. On the evidence of this, and to carry out this target, we should start from the values of a variable set that describe the economic and financial aspects of the companies working in the different subsectors and, through the discriminant analysis we can obtain a synthesis function from the features of the subsector companies. This work tries to identify factors able to distinguish homogeneous groups within the canary corporate organization, based on a sample of companies during the period 1992-1996. The results thereof reveal the existence of differences in the economic-financial behaviour of the companies according to the subsector in which they develop their business. In addition, we can observe that given economic-financial variables are capable of discriminating among companies that compete in different subsectors, and consequently these variables permit to draw a profile of the subsector.
