Electricity Privatisation in New South Wales : What are the Climate Change and Broader Sustainability Implications?

In this article, the author builds on previous work in the area of electricity restructuring to pay special attention to proposals to privatise the electricity sector in New South Wales, Australia. The privatisation initiative is assessed in the context of moving to a low carbon economy under an emissions trading scheme. The economic, environmental and social implications of privatisation are considered in the context of key reports to the New South Wales and Commonwealth governments on the electricity sector’s contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and energy security
