Embedding a Nickel Porous Medium Around Lib for Cooling by Mixture of Water and Nano-Encapsulated Phase Change Material : Exergoeconomic Analyses
Nowadays, electric vehicles are being developed and used dramatically, while one of their challenging problems is cooling packed Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). As a result, inventing new ways to cool them can help large and growing industry of electric vehicles. Therefore, in this study, only one single 38120 cell from the Headway corporation was employed to study the impacts of embedding a nickel porous medium around the LIB. The LIB with nickel porous medium was installed in a duct, which was fed by water and nano-encapsulated phase change material (NEPCM) with n-nonadecane core to cool it. The CFD based on FVM was implemented to solve the governing equations and boundary conditions in order to observe the effects of using nickel porous medium and NEPCM on the maximum temperature of LIB and pressure drop. Furthermore, the exergoeconomic analyses was used for having an efficient and practical designed system. The obtained evidence showed that embedding nickel porous media around of LIB increased pressure drop more than 100 times, Whereas, reduced maximum temperature of LIB’s surface more than , and had not significant effect on net profit efficiency
