Emerging Retail Technologies and Buyer-Supplier Relationship with Inter-Organisation System

Purpose – The research paper explores transformative next generation retail technology. The paper briefly mentions emerging retail technology solutions and explore the buyer, supplier & dyadic perspective of benefits in terms of positive behavioral construct with Inter-organizational system (IOS)/RFID and to identify challenges in RFID/IOS deployment with special reference to India. Design/methodology/approach – The first objective is met through case based approach and the second objective is met though exploratory research method, building on the grounded theory approach. Findings – Innovation and technological advances periodically redefine retailing. Understanding them, embracing their new approaches to shopping, connecting with them individually and organizational & inter-organization efficiency will provide a strong foundation for a winning strategy. The interplay between IOS and buyer-seller relationships in a supply chain is an intricate phenomenon & it’s observed that IOS improves this intricate relation. Technology prices will continue to decline as the use of RFID expands (tags, readers, antennae), thus reducing the overall cost of implementation. Originality/value – Retailers and suppliers, will need to address and manage the complexity and diversity of the future retail realities technological transformation that will make the market even more challenging and competitive than today. Also as with the advantages of IOS, more organizations move forward with collaborative initiatives, it is important that these companies be aware of the strategic role of supplier-buyer relationships positive behavioral consequences and challenges in RFID/IOS system deployment
