Emotional Intelligence and Success in Tasking Situations

Emotional Intelligence is a psychological construct embodying the competencies of emotional management, emotional perception, self-awareness, relationships management, stress management and empathy. This construct involves multiple intelligences, including both interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligences that provide the capacity for understanding the intentions, motivations and desires of other people. It also includes the capacity to understand oneself to appreciate one’s feelings, to solve problems, and to be successful in tasking situations. Emotional intelligence is the ability to access and generate emotions so as to assist thought to promote emotional and intellectual growth. By its general nature, emotional intelligence is concerned with enhancing leadership and improving more management skills for effective performance and success. Although the study was not exhaustive due to the absence of current relevant literature and lack of research funds, it is suggested that management should pay attention to individual emotional intelligence in the recruitment and selection processes. It is also a recommendation of the study that managers at all levels of organisational hierarchy should be aware of the need for quality relationships in management as a measure of employee motivations, and success in tasking situations
