Energy Considerations in Manufacturing (Invited Speaker) (Introduction)
Energy - the vehicle of all transformation is both a cause of the mechanical action and an effect of machines that may be deployed for production. Be it electricity. Through this papers the author aims to inculcate the effective use of energy in advanced manufacturing, which is argued as a cultural prerequisite. The Energy conscientiousness in Advanced Manufacturing is thus reiterated. The paradigm is proposed as a four prong strategy. Primary perspective for cultural transformation for energy austerity is defined as the trilogical system of plan, control and improve as advised by Dr Juran. For improvement again functional adequacy is required which may be rightly implemented and maintained without excessive inputs and cost drains. The impetus of energy management facilitates the overall environment quality and also sustainability. Any lowering of energy leads to improvement of environment, and each environmental initiatives lowers energy consumption. Such viciousness as linked with conservation of resources, and reduction of wastes is covered under clean development mechanism (CDM). Applying to manufacturing this paper puts forward a five step paradigm for improving energy conscientiousness along with competitive manufacturing. The pathways may be affected by implementation of ISO 9000 and 14000 standards, and also by imposing better cultural maturity
