Enhancing the Efficiency and Safety of Logistics by Interpretation of Indian Truck Art
Trucking and transportation, one of the prominent segments of Indian logistics industry, is largely run by individuals in an unorganized manner. The prominent logistic companies have a miniscule market share, which makes the sector inefficient, consequently depriving it of benefits of large-scale operations. Mostly, the truckers themselves manage the logistics by getting contractual loads from the commission agents and the transport companies in an unfragmented manner. This paper attempts to relate the images and text messages forming truck art to the subdued emotions and mundaneness of the truckers’ personal life. This in turn guides their behavior which is a salient factor in enhancing the safety and efficiency of the logistics. Hence, the interpretation of truck art can lead to creation of sensitivity towards the professional and personal needs of the truckers by the concerned stakeholders. An appropriate classification of pictures and images forming truck art has been done by the authors. The classification describes various aspects of life for which the driver is concerned but cannot communicate directly due to shy behavior and social boycott. A framework is proposed to consider truck art as an enabler for understanding the behavior of truck drivers or truckers. It is found that this truck art often envisages support to their individual appeal for preventive healthcare, skill development, vehicle ergonomics, safety, empathy, etc., and redressal of these issues can enhance the safety and efficiency of logistics
