Especificación y Estabilidad de la Demanda por Dinero en Colombia
La especificación de la función de demanda por dinero tiene importantes implicaciones para el diseño de la política macroeconómica. En este trabajo se reexaminan varios aspectos de su especificación para Colombia usando series de tiempo trimestrales para el período 1981-1993. En particular, se evalúa el uso del consumo como variable de escala alternativa al PIB, se emplea como medida del costo de oportunidad del dinero el diferencial entre la tasa de interés de los CDT a 90 días y la tasa de interés ponderada de una definición amplia del agregado monetario, y se usan dos modelos econométricos que garantizan la consistencia lógica de los parámetros de corto y largo plazo de la función de demanda por dinero. los resultados encontrados sugieren que la función de demanda por dinero en Colombia es inestable en sus parámetros y plantean interrogantes sobre el uso de M1 o MA como meta intermedia de la política monetaria. La sección II del trabajo discute brevemente las bases teóricas del modelo a estimar. La sección III presenta la especificación y estrategia de estimación del modelo básico, mientras la IV resume los resultados empíricos encontrados. La sección V evalúa los distintos modelos según su capacidad predictiva y grado de inestabilidad estructural y la VI concluye.
