The host answered to the people for the safety of a foreigner, and neighbors wreaked vengeance on anyone who failed to protect a guest against trouble or unpleasantness, as if the outrage had been committed against themâ¦, Merchants and artisans unhesitatingly visited the Slavs, among whom they found neither thieves nor robbers.
