Europa en América: la modernidad y transformación urbana en Buenos Aires. Crítica y defensa.

In this paper we study the state's role in the modernization and urban transformation in Buenos Aires in the period 1850-1910. This transformation was connected with the economic movements of the second half of the nineteenth century. It was a modernizing movement, a radical alteration of the production-trade system, composition and population distribution and transport system. No "change" only the city of Buenos Aires. Transformed the campaign and its urban centers as the Atlantic orientation of the new state consolidated and eradicated and institutional instability and monetary policy. The "big village" became a big city, not only because the state wanted it that way. This modernization was not an imitation architecture. It was the economic growth in a time of global crisis which led to the break that caused the admiration of the witnesses of the Centennial, and consolidated national unity could be seen realized the dream of the generation of '37: Enabling Europe in South America.
