Euthanasia as a Treatment Approach Among Cancer Patient in Palliative Care

The approaches to cancer management are changing and the patients are living longer.However, there are various ethical issues that cancer patients and families are facing in the health care setting. In this paper an explanations of some viewpoints about voluntary active euthanasia will be issued with referring to patient with cancer in palliative setting. Data had been obtained by searching databases in PubMed, IranMedex, Ovid sources and some other relevant articles and books. The discussion will be both argument depute side (who with and who against) by illustration for the following concepts: Autonomy, Right to die, Unbearable suffering, Compassion, Human dignity (in line with human dignity), patient best interest, Quality of life, Health care cost, and Legalization (include international and national wise), as argument for euthanasia, and Competency, Inviolability of human life - a human right, Holiness of life principle, Prohibition of killing, Risk of abuse, Quality of palliative care, Patient's good, and the compromise role of physician as counter argument for euthanasia in palliative oncology setting, then the author views will be stated. This paper aims to provide health care professionals with a basic knowledge about positive voluntary euthanasia in palliative cancer in order to facilitate their decision-making in clinical practice
