Evolution of the Employment and Income structure in Bolivia during the period of 1999-2009

This paper presents the evolution of the employment and labor income structure observed in Bolivia during the period 1999-2009. For this we use the harmonized series of the Household Surveys-what explains why our results are sometimes contradictories with those of other investigations that also use the Household Surveys. Our analysis shows that, between 1999 and 2009, there were improvements in the utilization and remuneration of the labor force. Despite the higher levels of participation, increases in the employment rate and the median remuneration were observed, as reductions in the unemployment, underemployment and discouragement rates. It's also shown that, even without big changes in the employment structure, the wage structure of the urban and rural area was modified clearly for the benefit of the segments with lower remuneration.
