Expanding the Frontiers of the Gravity Model : A Comprehensive Review and Personal Development of Its Theoretical Foundations and Empirical Applications

This monography presents a bibliographic review of the gravitational model in sociophysics since its origins in Newton’s conception. Furthermore, a theoretical development of the gravitational model through the logical and mathematical method is illustrated. How this tool has developed in physics will be indeed analysed, which may give new insights into the field of international trade. The study shall consist of three main chapters: the first will reconstruct the origins of the model in physics, ending with a general mention of the uses of the gravitational model in social sciences; the second passage will focus on an in depth critical and detailed analysis of its use in the study of international economics. The third chapter will then attempt to demonstrate how physics can still contribute to the development of the gravitational model in economics. A sociophysics and econophysics approach will therefore be preserved throughout the entire dissertation
