Female labour force activity in developing countries: a critique of current data collection techniques.

Working paper comprising an evaluation of data collecting techniques relating to labour force participation of women workers in developing countries. Discusses census and survey practices and typical questions asked. Attributes under-reporting of the economic role of rural women to questionnaire design, the higher social class and sex of interviewers and sex-proxy status of sample respondents (males). Proposes four definitions of manpower. Based on a case study of India, shows research variations. Bibliography.
