Focus of the Austrian Tourism Strategy for 2015: Emphasis on Growth and Employment
For the period of 2006-2015, revenues from international tourism in Austria are set to grow by 2.3 percent per year. A hypothetical calculation demonstrates that future tourism export growth rates could be accelerated by one percentage point per year if the share of overnight stays contributed by tourists from the "BRIC" countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) were boosted from its current 1 percent to 5 percent and the share of overnight stays from the ten countries that joined the EU in 2004 were doubled from its current 5 percent to 10 percent. An innovative supply policy, greater internationalisation, development of destinations, a quality strategy at each step of the service chain, and a tourism policy approach coordinated between federal and state levels are key measures to improve competitiveness in the Austrian tourism industry.
