Generation Y : Digital Slaves or Digitally Empowered?
I think all those who have a youngster at home or who work with youngsters will not deny the fact that they have more than once got the urge to bang their own heads against the wall or tried to snatch all the hair from their own heads, so much the exasperation of working with this new generation, termed as the ‘Generation Y' taken its toll. Indeed, working with today's youth has never been easy. I speak on behalf of all those who have or who are petting such a monster at home. Parents and employers get exasperated when the youngsters are found constantly on their mobiles. They fail to understand the relevance of persistently looking at one's screen. As a matter of fact, Millennials are often termed slaves to technology and that they cannot and will not be able to do without. However, it might sound like utopic remarks but a solution does exist in dealing with this kind of situation. At first, one has to realize that there is potential in the other being, no matter how young or eccentric he or she is in comparison to you. This paper deconstructs the issues raised by the generation and the culture gap that exists between parent and child and between employer and employee and how best can they be tackled. For some, it feels like a utter cultural shock but one has to be firstly open enough to allow oneself to see the world in their perspective and vice versa
