Geschichte als Instrument der Innen- und Außenpolitik am Beispiel Russlands: Wie die Gegenwart die Vergangenheit beeinflusst
Die derzeitige russische Führung legt großen Wert darauf, die über Jahrhunderte hinweg bestehende Kontinuität der russischen und sowjetischen Geschichte zu betonen. Historische Brüche sind in der offiziellen russischen Darstellung der eigenen Geschichte unerwünscht und negativ konnotiert. Gepflegt wird eine Kultur des Sieges, vor allem aufgrund der sowjetischen Erfahrungen im Zweiten Weltkrieg, der in Russland "Großer Vaterländischer Krieg" genannt wird. Die russische Führung setzt historische Inhalte selektiv ein, um das Regime und seine Handlungen gegenüber der russischen Bevölkerung sowie externen Akteuren zu legitimieren. Der Wahrheitsgehalt historischer Botschaften ist zweitrangig im Vergleich zu der Frage, wie sie sich für Zwecke der politischen Legitimation gebrauchen lassen. Historische Inhalte werden insbesondere dazu genutzt, eine Verknüpfung zu heutigen politischen Entwicklungen herzustellen, zum Beispiel in der Ukraine.
