Governance and Civil Society in an Era of Globalisation

People are finding new ways to get involved in public life and decision making - marking a shift from representative democracy to what is often called participatory democracy. Ironically, doubts about accountability and transparency - which made up the traditional critique of global governance institutions by civil society - have been raised with regard to civil society as well. This paper analyses the current deficits of global institutions and the challenges facing transnational civil society
