Green Sukuk Impetus : A Systematic Review

In recent years, green Sukuk emerged as a new paradigm in theory and practice due to the calls for sustainable development. To this end, this study aims to identify, critically evaluate, and synthesize extant literature on green Sukuk. This study also identifies gaps and limitations in green Sukuk literature to highlight areas for further development of knowledge in this field of study. The study utilized the systematic literature review (SLR) technique to identify all relevant literature from the Scopus, Web of Science, Annual Journal Guide, and Google Scholar databases. The thematic content analysis technique supported by MaxQda was utilized for analysis purposes. The findings of this study were reported in terms of state-of-the-art research profiling and key thematic areas. The study categorized existing research on green Sukuk in four themes, i.e. i) green Sukuk and sustainability, ii) green Sukuk and economic development, iii) Islamic finance and innovation, iv) climate change, mitigation, and adaptation. Key implications for theory, practice, and policy are discussed
