Guano, salitre y finanzas públicas: el pací­fico en el siglo XIX

This paper aims to discuss the so-called Guano era from a financial analysis perspective. The target is set on the “Dreyfus contractâ€, as far as it meant a “turning point†in Peruvian’s fiscal policy. The sad end of such story was the Pacific’s war. As a conclusion, the relationship between Pierola —Minister of Treasury, first, and then Dictator— and Dreyfus&Co. —Peruvian Government’s financial agents— looks like it had been conducted under a political target and not an economical one.
